That Face

The Photo in the flyer: I've rendered that photo (into two merged photo's) to make the girl's face much larger relative to the background.
I don't know yet, but would like to know, who the photographer is - of the photo of the traumatized girl. The photo is common to OCT 27 event posters around the US.

Tips & Helps

For Flyer Customization for areas outside Seattle, see further below.

          Downloading & Opening Tips:
Did you know that you can the links to files and pages and then click "save as..." to download a file? For Downloading this makes things much easier than most other ways. (For web pages you don't get the pics on them, just the text).
For page links, You can right-click the link then click "open in new tab." Otherwise, after using a page link, you may need to use your browser's back button to come back to the page where you clicked the link.
Opening & Printing Downloaded Files from Windows explorer (in XP): (For when you simply HAVE to print JPG's and other graphic files and you are limited in graphic program skills. Note: this paragraph does NOT apply to PDF's.) I have found that you can double click on the graphics file (which will bring the picture up in a view window, click the printer icon at the bottom, and after clicking "next" a few times you'll get to the "Layout Selection" dialog box with a "Print Preview" thumbnail. From there it will print what you see there. If that doesn't work for you, you may need to play with your printer setup settings, I think - ideally the settings will let you see a thumbnail of the file and adjust it's scale so the graphic fits the page before printing each file.
For 'cheap' prints (for less ink use and/or very plain paper): I've found that by going into the print setup's "advanced" settings, I can adjust the Brightness to max with the Contrast back a quarter amount, the various colors to minimum, and it won't soak even the cheapest paper. I can vary that some for more/less ink use - the Brightness setting seems to have by far the most effect in that regard. No doubt each model of printer is different, but you might have some luck with that.

          Printing Tips:

If you're having a professional copy/print shop do these, just have them do "greyscale" unless you want to pay exorbantantly for color. And If they can do them on a very light beige or light manila paper (some will at the same cost or very close to it), then you'll almost get that sepia effect - which very much enhances the effect of the girl's face. More on the sepia effect next paragraph.
On your own printer you can print color PDF's as greyscale or color, (and that's why these flyers are color versions): the original output from my worksheet often includes a SEPIA type of photo. And if you want to print off some really nice pieces for your own neighborhood, you might like these printing these sepia versions off in color. The added ink use should be minimal. And, if you go greyscale, you're more likely to get a better greyscale print from a color-outputted pdf than from a greyscale-outputted PDF. At least this is true when the blacks are blacker from a color-outputted PDF.
FONT Changes: Sometimes the fonts don't print out correctly with PDFs because you don't have the font that was used. That can result in text being spread over other text or is too large/small, etc. If this happens you can use the Acrobat 4.0 version because in this the fonts have also been converted to graphics. And that shouldn't happen with these Flyers since in all cases the fonts are either Arial (extremely common) or converted.
Printing trouble with JPGs - fuzzy edges or text, etc: Daz the trouble with jpgs especially if you don't size it on your page the exact same size it was made, and that's why I recommend only the pdf's for printing. Pdf's make it easy for non-techies to print although they also take a bit more energy for the graphic designer to output, and for you to download. An even better way to make the flyer viewer think we are amateurs putting on a cheap show is to print flyers from thumbnails:
Printing trouble with Thumbnails: They aren't meant to be printed any other size than what they are. So if you do, it just stretches them out and you get a lot of pixilation (pixels spread too far apart), resulting in a very very poor quality of picture.

Flyer Customization for areas outside Seattle:

My Offer: If you would like me to alter the flyer to help readers with directions - to a gathering point in your own local - to facilitate group busing or carpooling to Seattle - I can do that. Under the "Judsen Park ... Dearborn" lines I will replace the two existing lines with [info for whom, where, and when] like for the 'Eastsiders' sample below. I was able to add this, and it fit fairly nicely on the 4x version (with four small flyers on an 8.5" x 11" sheet):
sample:
Eastsiders: Meet 11 am, Anderson Pk
Buses 545 and 48 will take us there

Please Note: the more words and letters you require, the smaller the text is going to be.
The Deal: We work best when we work together - and that is what I request for payment for the time that it takes for me to do the alteration, output the pdf, upload it to my site, and send you the link for downloading it/them. So... before I do this, I need to be assured that the flyer will be printed clearly, fully, and with high quality appearance. And ideally, it will be printed in large quantity as well as in high quality.
And even more ideally, the flyers will be put up all over your neighborhood with rain-proof covering. Page protectors work well for this - put the opening at the bottom, tape it with scotch tape, cut off the part with the holes for the 3 ring binder. If the flyers you put up are torn off, then try putting them along streets that lead up *to* the busy traffic areas - main walk paths to the store, places of business, etc, and where people walk their dogs.
